Let me get this straight, an IDF soldier was killed, so they responded by killing 104 people, 46 of whom were children and wounding 256. Even if the IDF soldier's killing was caused by carried out by Hamas and it's not clear that it was, the response was indiscriminate and disproportionate and it's so exhausting that even saying something as simple as that is controversial these days.

Hamas knows the consequences and chooses to attack anyway. I’m not saying that everything Israel does is great but the ball is firmly in Hamas’s court right now. It is up to them whether this ceasefire will hold or not, but it feels like it can survive with Qatar and Turkey as covert backers which lessens the pressure for them to disarm and allows them to drag it out by delaying returning the bodies of murdered hostages. The fact that Israel has not restarted the war after the hostages have come back  shows that they do not want endless warfare. No one does, least of all Gaza’s civilians.

I hate titles like this because they try to throw blame on Israel while hiding all the things that explain why this happened.

Hamas has been violating the main point of the ceasefire, which is returning the hostages and their bodies. They were caught on camera digging out parts of a hostage’s body that they already returned parts of in an attempt to not return more bodies.

They also shot at IDF positions. There are no “accusations” they have done everything they are accused of, with indisputable evidence.

(Hamas also staged a fake recovery of a hostage's body - might not even have been a hostage, it's a little unclear - as Red Cross has confirmed. But that feels like small beans in comparison to everything else that happened today.)

I don’t understand why the impetus for the ceasefire being broken is being ignored in these comments. Hamas has allegedly not held up their part of the bargain regarding corpse returning, even going as far as staging bodies for Red Cross to find. They (or groups they claim are unaffiliated) have also allegedly attacked Israeli units with RPGs. I’m not saying this is all truth, and even if it is true I don’t think it justifies collective punishment that Israel metes out. But how can I claim that you are arguing/ posting/ commenting in good faith when you leave these things out. It’s incredibly frustrating.
